When I decided to go to Greece<\/a>, I didn't imagine that it would be so difficult to choose which islands to visit. According to what I've read, there are around 6,000. They all have their charm and finding the ideal combination was not easy. I found myself in a similar situation in the Philippines<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Finally, I chose to go to Mykonos<\/strong>, Folegandros<\/a> and Milos<\/strong>. Mykonos<\/strong>, being one of the most frequented, I really wanted to see it and experience it. I had heard about the life on the island and it tempted me a lot. I wanted to visit Folegandros<\/strong> because it was unspoiled, just the opposite of the first one. I wanted to have the contrast. I wanted to go to Milos<\/strong> because of the beaches. It did not disappoint me. On the contrary, it is perhaps the one I liked the most. It is a very complete island and without crowds. I suppose it also helped that I went in September.<\/p>\n

I was coming from Folegandros<\/strong> and it was the last island before entering the chaos of Athens<\/a>. The islands are connected by ferries (Seajets<\/a> or NetFerry<\/a>) that leave very frequently. There are a wide range of combinations. It worked perfectly for me, but it is important to check before deciding on the islands because not all are well connected. I went with Seajets<\/a> and in less than an hour I arrived in Milos<\/strong>. I travelled around the island in a rental car. There is the option of quads and motorbikes, but I do not recommend it.<\/p>\n

I was staying in Pollonia<\/strong>, one of the most charming town on the island, in the small hotel Glaronisia<\/a>. It is simple but perfect for what I was looking for. Very good value for money and unbeatable service.<\/p>\n

The first thing I visited was Papafragas<\/strong> beach. It is a rocky area that hides coves, caves and small, lovely beaches. I recommend going there early in the morning. The light is amazing and there are hardly any people. It is a perfect place to enjoy the views. It is not a comfortable place to spend the morning, but a visit is essential. There are two areas: the first, which I did not go to, is very difficult to access and the second is easily accessible and is the one I explain.<\/p>\n

Before reaching Alogomandra<\/strong> beach, don't miss a small port called Agios Konstantinos<\/strong>. It's one of the places I liked the most on the island. There are a few white houses with blue doors and windows next to the sea. The boats are small and traditional. It's an idyllic place. There aren't any tourists. It's all local people and nobody speaks English. It gave me a lot of peace and I would have stayed there for hours. Worth mentioning is the church at the top of the village. They're all very similar: small and very well maintained. They're really cute.<\/p>\n

Alogomandra<\/strong> is a large and secluded beach. White sand and turquoise water. It has no services or people. It is a good place to spend some time in the sun and enjoy the wonderful transparent water of the area.<\/p>\n

Continuing along the coastal road, you soon reach Sarakiniko<\/strong>. It is probably one of the most visited places and where there are the most people, but the visit is worth it. On the access road itself you will find many parked cars and a van selling ice cream and soft drinks. In other words, it is an area without services and quite busy. The landscape is quite different from everything I have seen so far: it is a white rocky area with turquoise blue water! There are very eroded areas and the rocks take on fascinating rounded shapes. I have read that they are remains of lava, but I am not sure. Very curious. There is a natural pool where people jump from the high rocks. Really, the natural formations there are awesome.<\/p>\n

Nearby is Mandrakia<\/strong>, a must-see for those looking for the essence of Milos<\/strong>. I walked around every corner and found it wonderful. Here I saw the octopuses hanging in the sun, the syrmata (houses where fishermen store their things with wooden doors and windows) next to the sea and embedded in the rocks, cute little boats and crystal-clear water. Mandrakia really is a colourful postcard of the Aegean Sea. There are few places where I have had such a feeling of tranquillity as here. I didn't have the chance to try it, but the locals recommended the Medusa restaurant.<\/p>\n

No one can leave Milos<\/strong> without visiting its famous Catacombs<\/strong>. It is a network of underground tombs from the 1st and 5th centuries. They are among the three most important of the 74 discoveries in the world, along with those in the Holy Land and Rome. Despite being an interesting visit, I found it very short. I don't know if it was because it is small or because it is not open to the public. You can still see inscriptions on the walls, including the Monogram of Christ and the Christian ecumenical symbol \"\u0399\u03a7\u0398\u03a5\u03a3\", holes for lamps and a couple of baby graves. They were used by the first Christians for burial purposes and, later, as a place of worship and refuge. They say that, not far from here, is where a farmer discovered the Venus de Milo<\/strong> in the 19th century; that is why there is a replica of the statue from 2022. The original is in the Louvre in Paris.<\/p>\n

And, the last visit, and how could it be otherwise: Kleftiko<\/strong>. It is one of the essential places of the island to visit. You can only get there by boat. I booked the half-day excursion with \"Zephyros<\/a>\". The meeting point is the \"Tarantella\" restaurant on Agios Sostis Beach<\/a>. The boat skirts the southwest coast offering great views of the white cliffs, the many caves and the blue or green water depending on the corner. The excursion itself is worth it; but I also tell you that swimming in Kleftiko<\/strong> is wonderful. It is the star destination of Milos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It is a very complete island with spectacular beaches, unique rock formations, archaeological remains and good gastronomy. What else?<\/p>\n
