Without being very different or awesome, it manages to be special.

The Castanyer Gros de Can Cuc, located in the Parc Natural del Montseny, is said to be the tree with the largest diameter in Catalonia. The almost 12 meters are practically empty and the two openings to the outside are the reason for inexhaustible games for children. Inside it is so big that for a time there lived a charcoal burner who had his own fireplace inside. I found it a curious and amazing story.

Once you reach the chestnut tree, I recommend going around it on foot. Without haste go observing. The shape totally changes depending on the angle from which it is viewed. In fact, they look like different trees.

As it is a Natural Park, it cannot be accessed with your own vehicle. There are two options: with an authorized rural taxi or on foot. I recommend going up with the first option and going down with the second. Thus; on the one hand, you will have the added value of Eva's explanations that she knows the history and a thousand anecdotes of the chestnut tree and, on the other hand, going down on foot, you will enjoy nature in its maximum essence. The route on foot is approximately 6 km with a drop of 450 meters. It is an easy and accessible tour.

The two times I've been there was in winter and I haven't had much good weather. One day it snowed and the other it rained. Although the leaves on the ground give it a great color, the photos do not show or show the beauty of the place. Believe me that the visit is well worth it.

Additionally, I know that they also carry out a couple of excursions that last between two and three hours to the lake and to the mountains, always with prior reservation. I haven't done them, but I'm sure they are worth it.

Take advantage of the visit to eat at the amazing Casa del Bosc. Eva will bring you there. It is a little house with a fireplace and a lovely couple. They offer grilled and homemade food. During the calçots season they also make calçotadas. It is very worth it.

In case you don't want to eat at Casa del Bosc, ask carefully because I don't know if the rural taxi can be hired only for the chestnut tree.

If you need and/or want help organizing your getaway, don't hesitate to send me an mail!

It is one of those getaways that leaves you wanting to return.
